The inaugural edition of the Flowers Festival, jointly organised by Souq Waqif and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), opened at the Souq Waqif premises yesterday.

Nasser Rashid Al Nuaimi, General Director of the Private Engineering Office (PEO), Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture, Fisheries Affairs at the MME and Mohamed Al Salem, Director of Souq Waqif and many other top officials attended the opening ceremony, reported Gulf Times.

The aim of the festival, which is being held for the first time, is to support Qatari agricultural products, display the produce of nurseries and local companies including flowers of all kinds.

A wide range of imported flowers are also on display. The festival features shops and nurseries marketing their flowers, seedlings and accessories related to flowers and ornamental plants.

Through the festival, the public will be introduced to local companies engaged floristry and give them the opportunity to purchase flowers of all kinds and enjoy the exhibits at the festival.

The 10-day festival will be open to the public from 9am to 10pm, in the Souq Waqif’s West Square. Thousands of people are expected to patronise the event.
