The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places ( (Ashghal) has successfully concluded all the significant work regarding the Qatari Book House and the “IQRA Square” which is located right opposite it. Keen on restoring the Dar al Kutub building, the committee under the name “Doors of Knowledge” is working to safeguard its unique architectural identity. Since the sixties of the last century, the building has had a vital and well-established role in promoting the culture of Qatari people.

The “IQRA Square” is situated inverse the Qatari Book House. The structure was laid out in one story in 1962 with the subsequent floor included in the early eighties. It incorporates rare holdings of manuscripts and maps. It’s estimated at more than 1,200 manuscripts in astronomy, arithmetic, medicine, and chemistry written in Arabic, Persian and Turkish.

By establishing this square, the committee was hoping to provide a healthy environment for area occupants and visitors. The project is located is within the development and beautification projects in central Doha which aims to create a healthy, social and cultural environment. Places that have more access to green environments can influence community health and increase physical activity while improving mental health and social connections.

It not only contributes to encouraging citizens and residents to follow a healthier lifestyle but is also meaningful in diverting the path to their destinations. Overall, its an enjoyable journey with the availability of pedestrian-friendly transportation such as pedestrian paths and crossings motivating visitors to utilize various modes of transportation. Improving the development of strolling connects all vital centers in the locale to one another. Using a full vision of the region contributes to reinforcing the identity of Qatar’s heritage which is significant for the historical and cultural regard for the natural habitat of the state.

Developing a rainwater drainage network with a length of 10.2 km, developing a sewage network with a length of 11.2 km, developing an electricity network with a length of 14.7 km, as well as providing 515 lighting poles of a distinctive nature are all part of the project to beautify Doha. It also includes planting about 3250 trees, and more than 30,000 Square meters of green spaces, the construction of 35.3 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths, and covering of all the main streets with granite to give the area a special character. Later, it will be feasible to permit the streets to be shut down for vehicles during the festivals and will remain operational for pedestrians only.
