The Shura Council praised the role of Qatar in ending the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and commended the Amir’s stance on Palestine during the weekly meeting that took place yesterday.

HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud, Speaker of the Shura Council, hailed His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's stances in supporting the brotherly Palestinian people and defending the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Arabism of Jerusalem.

The Council praised the role of Qatar in ending the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza and the Israeli entity.

The Council expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for a lasting calm that would provide the appropriate atmosphere for the resumption of the peace process in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, the Arab peace initiative, and the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The Shura Council "renewed the firm position of Qatar in support of the brotherly Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, and saluted the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip and in all the occupied Palestinian territories and their tenacious defense of the sanctity of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Arabism of Jerusalem, as well as their tremendous sacrifices for the sake of their just cause and their legitimate rights".

HE the Speaker of the Shura Council also addressed the 142nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union through videoconferencing yesterday.

He stressed that among the most serious threats to security and peace in the Middle East region is Israel's oppressive and brutal practices against the Palestinian citizens and its continued illegal occupation of their land.

This calls for a firm stance towards them from the international community and parliamentarians, in particular, obligating to implement international legitimacy decisions related to the Palestinian cause and to recognize the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right to establish their independent state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, he noted.
