Over 33,000 children are participating in Qatar’s largest-ever Quran memorization contest that began earlier this week.
Taking place in collaboration between the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, this is the 58th Annual School Competition in Memorizing the Holy Quran.
The competition, which has grown bigger over the years, has this year attracted 33,667 students from at least 404 government and private schools reported The Peninsula.

Earlier when competition details were revealed, Director the Calls and Religious Guidance Department Malullah al Jaber highlighted that the competition is held annually for more than half a century in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with the participation of students of all levels and ages, according to the Gulf Times.
He further emphasized the great role played by this competition in spreading the Quranic culture and the interest in memorizing Qur’an among school students.
There are two levels of the competition whereby the first is for students of Grades 1 to 12 covering six parts of the Holy Quran from Surah Al-Nas to Surah Al-Shura, and the second is for students who are able to memorize at least 7 or more parts of the Holy book.
The competition is held on two levels of memorizing the Holy Quran; the first is for students of grade 1 to 12, on six part of the Holy Quran from Surah Al-Nas to Surah Al-Shura. The second level is for students who memorize seven of more parts of the Holy Quran.

The massive competition will see 21 committees of juries overseeing the competition at the Holy Quran Studies' section of the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance in the Ministry of Awqaf. More juries will be working in schools where over 300 students are participating, shared the International Quran News Agency.
Women’s participation is also significant in the competition, as Awqaf has also set up 101 juries for female students for 16 women's memorization centers in the country. The women’s performance will be supervised by the Ministry's women's activity section.
The competition is currently underway and is expected to conclude at end of February 2019.
