If you look up for long enough at a dark, clear sky, you may catch the Eta Aquarid meteor shower tonight. However, a nearly full moon could obstruct the view.

According to Qatar Calendar House (QCH), the Eta Aquarid meteor shower will illuminate the northern hemisphere sky from this evening until the following sunrise.

Dr. Beshir Marzouk, the QCH astronomy expert, said in a statement that the Eta Aquarid meteor shower is usually active every year between April 19 and May 28, with its peak occurring from May 5 till the dawn of May 6.

Skywatchers can view with their naked eyes without any astronomical instruments from places without light and environmental pollutions and can expect as many as 10 to 30 meteors during the shower’s peak.

The source of the Eta Aquarid meteor shower is Halley's Comet. Earth crosses the comet's orbital path every year between April and May.

Anyone who wishes to photograph it can do so by using digital cameras. They can increase the exposure time to get the best results.
