Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Addresses Parliamentary Association for Peace Mediation in Japan

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi delivered a speech before the Parliamentary Association for Peace Mediation at the House of Representatives of Japan in Tokyo.

His Excellency affirmed that dialogue and mediation constitute a fundamental pillar of the State of Qatar's foreign policy, stemming from its constitutional commitment and its belief in the importance of diplomacy in protecting lives, alleviating suffering, and promoting security and stability.

His Excellency explained that successful mediation requires building trust and credibility, exercising patience, respecting commitments, and maintaining the confidentiality of negotiations. He noted that the mediator's role is to help parties to a conflict reach acceptable and sustainable solutions.

His Excellency reviewed the State of Qatar's efforts in several regional and international files, including Afghanistan, the Gaza Strip, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as efforts to reunite children with their families amid the war in Ukraine. He affirmed that these efforts aim to alleviate humanitarian suffering and create the conditions for political solutions.

His Excellency stressed the importance of following up on the implementation of agreements, fulfilling commitments, and protecting mediators and negotiation channels in a manner that preserves opportunities to reach sustainable peaceful settlements.

His Excellency also praised the friendship and strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and Japan, expressing his aspiration to strengthen cooperation in supporting dialogue and de-escalation, coordinating humanitarian and development efforts in conflict-affected countries, and exchanging expertise in mediation.
