The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has decided that precautionary measures in Qatar's mosques would be relaxed starting next Sunday.

Awqaf announced the decision yesterday via its Twitter account and is in accordance with the country’s plan to gradually lift restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus outbreak and attempt to return to normalcy.

The Ministry has decided to eliminate the need for social distancing in mandatory and Friday prayers, with a focus on maintaining a one-meter distance between each worshiper during the Friday sermon.

In the case of open restrooms and when performing ablution in non-congested areas, the one-meter distance rule will also be applied.

The Ministry urged mosque-goers to follow and adhere to preventive restrictions and procedures, such as presenting the Ehteraz app before entering, bringing their own prayer rug, and wearing a mask, in order to protect the safety of worshipers and members of society.
