As we have all witnessed abrupt climate changes occurring all over the globe, it’s high time we as individuals and governments do our part to act against this. Several departments and municipalities have adopted a set of new rented "hybrid" environmentally friendly cars that help lower pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the air, which is supported by the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Department of Mechanical Equipment of the Public Services Affairs Sector.
The hybrid car is made up of two engines, one running on gasoline and the other on electricity. These two engines work interchangeably to lower fuel consumption and emissions, while the electric batteries are charged from the gasoline engine and when using the brakes. Thus, eliminating the need of an electric source to charge the vehicle.
These cars will substitute the rented cars used at present which have been rented for four years, as they get distributed to various municipalities and departments during the month. This is the first phase post completion of undertaking essential procedures along with installing the "woqody" chips to assist the process of regulating and following up on fuel disbursements, as well as registering these cars in the ministry's electronic system, as long as other rented cars are received and distributed successively in accordance with the car supply program with contracted companies.
This initiative brings about reduction in dependence on traditional fuels, thereby lowering carbon dioxide emissions. Director of the Mechanical Equipment Sherida Sultan Al Rumaihi explains that the aim of the change is to improve the quality of the ministry's services by considering the best standards and technical specifications for the cars and mechanisms used, as these cars reduce 30% of fuel expenses, and work to lower gas emissions in the atmosphere, which ensures the reduction of environmental pollution and checks global warming.
1,226 new environmentally friendly cars will be added during the forthcoming period of various types in accordance with the requirements of the ministry, noting that the first batch has already been received, Al Rumaihi confirmed. This includes 129 buses to transport the ministry's employees and workers, including 57 buses from Karwa company operating with the Euro 5 engines, which is well-known by its use of sulfate-free fuel that reduces carbon emissions harmful to the environment.
This initiative comes within the framework of the Department of Mechanical Equipment's plan to improve and modernize the fleet of the Ministry of Municipality by rendering the municipalities and concerned departments with the latest cars, refining the services provided, elevating the quality of work in the ministry, and providing environmentally friendly cars that contribute to reducing pollution.
