In a bid to raise public awareness on food safety, officials from Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) have distributed as many as 3, 200 pamphlets to citizens and residents at shopping complexes across Doha.

Representatives from the Ministry’s Health Control Section are leading the campaign, which has entered its fourth week now.

According to a statement by the Ministry, representatives have distributed pamphlets and leaflets that contain important information on ways to safeguard one’s health and avoid food-borne illnesses.

The information focuses on food safety while shopping, proper handling of meat, poultry and eggs, safety of handling fresh fruits and vegetables and juices as well as ways to ensure food safety in homes.

The awareness materials are available in Arabic and English.

Food safety is one of the top priorities for the Ministry, which has dedicated health control departments under its Municipal Control Department.

With the ambition to ensure the safety of the consumers, several inspectors with specialized knowledge from the Ministry of Public Health, veterinary medicine experts, science and agricultural engineering experts have been trained to carry out awareness-raising activities.

The program adds to the Ministry’s efforts to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
