The relevant authorities in Qatar have taken remarkable steps to contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the population.

Among other efforts, Qatar's Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has scaled up safety measures to make sure the risk of the virus affecting the wider population remains to an absolute minimum.

Represented by its different municipalities, MME launched an extensive "mist-spraying" campaign across various parts of the country to maintain public cleanliness. Under this drive, MME also focuses on cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing garbage containers.

The cleanliness and sterilization campaign was carried out recently at Souq Al Ali, Souq Al Gharafa and the Q Mall complex according to a tweet by MME.

In addition to cleaning efforts, inspectors from MME's Health Control Section are also conducting regular inspections at food establishments to make sure the required hygiene, safety measures are being implemented.

The monitoring covers required safety guidelines such as hand hygiene, sterilizing shopping carts, cleaning surfaces, wearing gloves and headcovers.

Officials from different municipalities are engaged in running awareness and inspection campaigns and continue to monitor the implementation of health and safety conditions by the workers at food establishments.

Slaughterhouses and yards for selling local agriculture products are also being inspected regularly.

Earlier this week, the Ministry announced the closure of all public parks and beaches, amid other preventive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

For any other queries or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by MOPH. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
