As Qatar entered phase 2 of the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions last week, beaches across the country were re-opened to the public.
With many families heading to the beaches to beat the heat, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has stepped up efforts to educate beach-goers about the importance of hygiene and cleanliness.
MME together with the General Cleanliness Department, the Natural Reserves Department, and the Public Relations Department carried out a comprehensive public campaign across all beaches in Qatar.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the Public Hygiene Law and urge visitors at the beaches to adhere to it to keep the beaches clean. Proper waste disposal is also one of the main focus areas under the campaign.
Additionally, the campaign focuses on enhancing public awareness on the significance of maintaining social distancing, which is one of the most important preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Under the campaign, visitors at the beach have also been provided with garbage collection bags. This is in addition to the provision of awareness brochures (in three languages).
Director of the Municipal Control Department at Al Shamal Municipality, Nasser Mohamed Al Nuaimi, said that MME places great importance on maintaining the cleanliness of beaches and islands as key recreational destinations for the people.
The Ministry makes sure that all the necessary human and material resources needed to achieve this purpose are readily available, he added.
He further mentioned that in the last few weeks, five violation reports (under the Public Hygiene Law) have been issued.
Visitors at the beaches must be mindful of this Law and refrain from improper disposing of waste at the beaches.
The Ministry official urged members of the public to cooperate with the concerned authorities to protect marine life in Qatar.
Here are five easy ways you can help protect Qatar's beautiful beaches.
