Real estate just got easier in Qatar. In a recent development, the Ministry of Municipalities and Environment (MME), represented by the Information Systems Department, has announced the launch of online service for registration and attestation of real estate leases through its website www.mme.gov.qa.

The launch of the new service comes within the framework of the ministry’s continuous efforts to develop electronic services for the convenience of people and streamline overall services, according to the Director of Information Systems Department Hamda Abdulaziz al Maadheed.

"Now one can access the service anywhere anytime and get the registration of properties done in no time. Until now, the registration and attestation of property leases required personal attendance of the applicant at municipal real estate registration offices. Besides, piles of documents were quite burdensome for the applicants", she said.

Maadeed added that the service currently covers contracts associated with one property, though in the next phase it will include multiple contracts in one transaction.

Remarking on the advantages of the service, she stated: "With electronic registration applicants will not have to be present at the municipality for registration of property. They can make the payment online and get a printout of the certificate of documentation of the lease. They can also follow up on the status of the request."

To avail the service you will need:

  • copies of the contract in Arabic
  • ownership deed statements
  • copy of the agency or authorisation to register a lease
  • copy of original contract in case of sublease
  • electricity and water number
