The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has inked an agreement with United Development Company (UDC) to offer dedicated traffic services in the Pearl-Qatar.

A new traffic department center has been launched, which comes under MOI’s expansion plans to ease access of services for citizens, residents and visitors.

The agreement that reflects MOI’s ambition to enhance road safety across the popular landmark was signed by the General Directorate of Traffic director general Brigadier Mohamed bin Saad Al Kharji and UDC president and CEO Ibrahim Jassim Al Othman.

At the new center, 14 counters are expected to provide up to 90 percent of traffic-related services including investigations, registration, licensing, and traffic investigation.

According to the deal, the Traffic Department will assign units to conduct round-the-clock patrols across The Pearl-Qatar.

The opening of the Control and Operations Centre will aid in monitoring traffic violations; investigate accidents and process vehicle registration and licensing applications.

These add to the other services designed to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety at the locality.

The new center will contribute to the promotion of traffic patrols, traffic control and traffic law enforcement, while saving residents of the Pearl, Katara and Lusail a trip to the Madinat Khalifa traffic department.

At the launch event, Brigadier Al Kharji said traffic safety is highly important for Qatar and the country’s efforts in this regard are seen in the noteworthy reduction in road fatalities and serious injuries.

“The second phase implementation of the Road Safety Strategy 2018-2022 has helped Qatar to achieve good results,” he said.

According to MOI, the Pearl-Qatar continues to witness an increasing number of visitors.

Number of vehicles arriving at the island went up by 17 percent in 2018 while the total number of vehicles to stood at 13 million.
