In a move to enhance communication with workers in the northern areas of Qatar, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has launched a community initiative called ‘Bedar.’
Unveiled yesterday at a function in the Officers Club of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, the initiative is set up in collaboration with the Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme (RLIC-COP).
The outreach program aims to reach out to workers, increase their awareness of worker's rights and duties, and support them to develop their skills.
The initiative will include a series of training programs and awareness workshops aimed at raising community awareness on safety, health, customs, traditions, and culture.
Bedar will create a significant link between MoI departments and a large number of employees in companies operating in Qatar, through a number of selected trainers.
The trainers will undergo thorough training under the 'Training of Trainers' program and will serve as the ambassadors of training and awareness within their companies and residential complexes.
The #Bedar initiative was launched after graduation of 35 trainers representing 12 major companies in Qatar who are able to deliver the required training in English and other languages most commonly used by Asian communities. #MoIQatar pic.twitter.com/i4VjfGDBxx

Sheikha Al Anoud Al Thani, head of Media Studies, Public Relations Department, said that Bedar is implemented in line with MoI’s strategic orientations.
"We are looking to sensitize all residents on security and safety under the supervision of the Community Outreach Office of the Public Relations Department by making communication between the resident workers and the community effective," she said.
The Communities Office at the Department of Public Relations plans to organize several awareness sessions in English and the most common Asian languages under the Bedar program.
Bedar is launched in order to build a bridge of effective communication between the major industrial companies in the northern areas and all segments of the community, said Sheikha Dana Al Thani, Senior Officer at RLIC-COP.
"[The idea of] launching this initiative [is] based on the official directions of government institutions that demand steps to take care of the workers of different communities," she added.
