As relevant authorities in Qatar ramp up detection, monitoring, and management efforts to fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced 38 new cases of the virus in the country.

With these new cases and the 64 announced yesterday, the total number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Qatar has now reached 439.

Most of the 38 new cases are related to migrant workers that were under quarantine, the Ministry states on its website.

"Also, 3 cases have been registered for Qatari citizens returning from travel and from several countries which are the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of Spain, and the Swiss Confederation."

The patients are all under complete isolation and in good health as they receive the necessary medical care, MoPH said.

So far, at least 8375 people have undergone COVID-19 testing in Qatar.

Earlier this week, officials from the Ministry announced that four expatriate patients who had contracted the COVID-19 in Qatar have fully recovered from it and are now in good health condition.

As health authorities in the country continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

This includes washing your hands often, using hand sanitizers, and keeping a distance of at least one meter (3 feet) from people who have symptoms of illness.

MoPH also advises citizens and residents to use a sleeve to cover the nose and mouth while coughing and sneezing in public or to use tissue paper and dispose it appropriately.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
