As relevant authorities in Qatar ramp up efforts to tackle the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), a new case of the infection has been reported in the country.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced today that it has detected one new case of COVID-19.

The new case is that of a Qatari citizen who had recently returned to Qatar from Iran. The patient has been in quarantine since his arrival in Qatar.

The individual has had no contact with the wider community, the Ministry confirmed in a press statement. 

The patient is in a stable condition and is under complete isolation at Hamad Medical Corporation's Communicable Disease Center.

MoPH has assured the public that it continues to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection and management procedures to protect the people of Qatar from being affected by the virus. 

It reiterated that the risk of the coronavirus spreading in the country remains low.

With the three additional cases reported yesterday and one today, the total number of coronavirus cases in Qatar has reached 12.
