As Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) together with the relevant authorities continues to intensify its monitoring and preparedness level to tackle the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), it has confirmed two additional confirmed cases of the virus in the country.

In a press statement issued today, the Ministry said after further testing, two new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the country.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Qatar currently stands at three.

The additional cases confirmed today are of two Qatari individuals who were evacuated from Iran on a government-chartered plane on February 27, 2020.

They have been under full quarantine ever since their arrival in Qatar.

The patients are under strict infection control measures and are being treated at Hamad Medical Corporation’s Communicable Diseases Center (CDC).

Once again, the Ministry has stressed the risk of the virus spreading remains low, as the patients have not had any engagement with the general public.

MoPH has also affirmed it is well-prepared to prevent the spread of the virus “by instituting quarantine measures for people returning from infected areas.”

All quarantined individuals are being monitored for coronavirus symptoms, the Ministry has confirmed.
