Qatar has been working to the best of its capabilities to ensure the good health and safety of its citizens and residents in current times.

As the country continues to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) issues guidelines for employers and employees in several languages to maintain a safe working environment.

Dr. Asma al-Nuaimi, National Lead for “Healthy and Safe Employees” priority group of the National Health Strategy, stated, “The guidelines include and specify the measures that employers should follow to control the spread of the virus within the workplace, as well as guidelines for employees to be cautious and follow health and safety rules.”

“The guidelines are in line with the measures and awareness campaigns launched by the competent authorities in the country since the beginning of the outbreak of the virus and come on the principle “safety is a Shared Responsibility”. Working together helps us take serious steps to prevent the spread of the virus,” added al-Nuaimi.

The guidelines include the responsibilities of employers, which include: identifying the symptoms of the virus, the ways of transmission, environmental cleaning of the workplace through the installation of hand sanitation devices, disinfection of the workplace, provision of the required personal protection tools, measuring the temperature of employees using a non-touch device, maintaining social distancing, suspending the use of fingerprint devices, not receiving visitors, canceling external meetings and using technological solutions.

The guidelines also include stopping the use of external vendors to provide food and drink to employees. They also recommend managing employees’ mental health and stress by circulating all the facts about COVID-19, the flexibility of work as employers must be flexible, helping them to work from home and adhering to national guidelines that include the procedures and measures employers must take in the event an employee gets infected.

The Ministry also issued several important health and safety guidelines for employees, including informing them of the common symptoms of COVID-19, methods of infection, personal hygiene tips, healthy habits, the need to avoid mobility, travel and attending social events, informing them how to monitor and observe infection and directing employees to visit health centers if they develop symptoms and notify the relevant authorities.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
