Mandla Mandela, the grandson of former South African president Nelson Mandela, is set to visit Qatar to be the guest of honour of an event celebrating South African identity

The South African community in Qatar will welcome the chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council to the country for the Ubuntu Bash and Heritage Day Bazaar at the Doha Golf Club on September 21, reported Gulf Times

Ubuntu is a complex word from the Nguni language that can be translated as the connectedness that exists between people.

The celebration is carried out on September 24 every year in order to recognise the cultural wealth of the South African nation.

South Africans around the world stage various events to remember the country’s multiple cultural heritages that make up the population of South Africa.

“The South African community in Qatar will gather at the Doha Golf Club on September 21. We invite all friends of South Africa to come and share in a celebration of South African tastes and sounds,” said a statement from the South African Embassy, according to Qatar Tribune.

The Ubuntu Bash will see more than 30 stalls selling South African delicacies such as bunny chows (South African style curry served in half a loaf of bread), boerewors rolls (traditional, unmistakable South African sausage), koeksisters (a very traditional baked dessert) and many more. Various Zulu and Xhosa dishes will also be served.

The embassy will also welcome Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy(SC) Nasser Al Khater. At the event, the SC will launch their programme to register volunteers for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
