Old Doha Port has announced the launch of ‘Move,’ a brand new sports and wellness festival that aims to turn the waterfront destination into a hub for physical activity, health awareness, and community engagement.
Organised in collaboration with NO LIMITS, a Qatari company specialising in races and sports events, the festival will run from February 5 to 10 at the Mina Park, starting on the weekend ahead of National Sports Day and culminating on the day itself.
The name ‘Move’ is inspired by the Qatari expression ‘Tarayyad,’ a word commonly used in local and Gulf dialects to describe going out to exercise or be active, and which traces back to the classical Arabic root (R‑Y‑Ḍ) associated with physical training. This linguistic link gives the festival a distinctly Qatari character while underscoring its focus on adopting movement as a daily habit.
Over six days, ‘Move’ will feature seven themed zones, bringing together sport, recreation, and wellbeing in one integrated experience. Visitors can expect daily panel discussions with athletes, coaches, and health specialists covering topics such as fitness, nutrition, mental wellbeing, and building active routines.
Multiple zones will host group workouts and specialised fitness classes, while a community running race along the Mina Corniche is scheduled during the festival, with registration handled through the social media platforms of Old Doha Port and NO LIMITS.
The festival grounds will also include retail areas for sports products, encouraging residents to invest in an active lifestyle, alongside healthy restaurants and cafés offering better-for-you dining options.
A dedicated children’s area will introduce younger visitors to movement through games and age-appropriate activities, and separate recovery and relaxation spaces will allow participants to cool down, stretch, and unwind after workouts.
Together, these elements are designed to prepare the wider community - physically and mentally - for National Sports Day, while presenting movement as an enjoyable, social way of life rather than a one-off event.
Commenting on the launch, Engineer Mohammed Abdulla Al Mulla, CEO of Old Doha Port, said: “Move reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting sport as a way of life, while highlighting Old Doha Port and its infrastructure as a space that brings together sport, health, and recreation. By launching this festival in the lead-up to National Sports Day, we aim to encourage the community to stay active and take part in structured, accessible health and recreational programmes designed for all.”
‘Move’ adds a distinctive new pillar to Old Doha Port’s expanding events calendar, complementing its cultural, family, and entertainment offerings with a flagship wellness-focused experience.
In doing so, the festival supports the Human Development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, promoting healthier, more active lifestyles and strengthening community ties through shared participation in sport and wellbeing activities.
