Following on from Qatar’s Annual Sustainability Week at the beginning of the month, Hamad International Airport (HIA) has launched a ‘One Degree Makes a Difference’ campaign. The campaign aims to reduce energy consumption across the airport’s operations, in line with the Qatar National Strategy objectives for saving resources through conservation and energy efficiency.
The campaign, in which HIA are supported through their memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kahramaa, in partnership with the National Programme for Conservation & Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”, began on November 1st this year. HIA aim to contribute to the countries energy efficiency objectives of achieving an 8% per capita decrease of electricity consumption by 2022. They also hope to challenge people’s conception of energy conservation by demonstrating simple tactics that conserve energy and benefit the environment. Awareness videos and visuals will be on display throughout HIA’s terminal, encouraging travellers to participate in environmentally-conscious practices.
As reported by Gulf Times , Abdulaziz al-Mass, HIA vice-president (Commercial and Marketing) stated, “HIA holds itself to the highest environmental standards and to responsible business practice. A key component of our contribution to national energy saving initiatives is cooperation with instrumental and action-oriented organisations. We are committed to supporting Tarsheed’s initiatives for awareness, conservation, and efficient use of water and electricity. The airport’s sustainable practice, comprised of several energy management programs and participation in Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, is paving the way to mitigate environmental impacts wherever we operate. We hope to be a leading example in encouraging other corporations in Qatar to take environmentally-conscious practices as seriously as we do.”
