The 2022 FIFA World Cup may still be more than four years away, but that has not stopped the excitement from going through the roof.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), which is in charge of organising the tournament in 2022, opened volunteers registrations for the tournament and it has been met with widespread enthusiasm.

Registrations are open to people from all over the world and it is estimated that around 14,000 to 16,000 volunteers are needed for the tournament to run smoothly.

The formal announcement was a huge success and more than 12,000 people registered within the first four hours, reported Gulf Times.

The volunteers Arte expected to contribute towards numerous Qatar 2022 milestones, including stadium launches and test events. They will also support a range of functions, including event management, hospitality, marketing, communications, audience management, security, medical services and more, said SC, in its official website.

Only people who are aged 16 or above can register themselves to be volunteers for the mega event. They need not have any prior volunteering experience and will receive training in the run up to the event.

By the end of yesterday, more than 43,000 people had announced their willingness to be a part of the competition, reported The Peninsula.

The SC held a special ceremony at the Four Seasons Doha, where the first 22 volunteers, from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey and Yemen, were unveiled.

SC Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi said he expected volunteers to play a pivotal role in helping Qatar deliver a unique tournament.

“I’m delighted to join the first 22 volunteers to share our historic journey towards hosting our first World Cup in our region. We’ve always maintained that this tournament is for the whole region. Now, we’re excited to open registration for volunteers interested in joining us in our journey,” he was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.

“This tournament will provide a platform to showcase the true nature of the Arab world and volunteers will be essential partners in ensuring that all our preparations for 2022 help achieve this,” he added.
