When HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Paraguay last month, he was warmly greeted by the nation’s people and given a hearty welcome.

Just weeks after HH The Amir returned home, a city in Paraguay has changed the name of one of their schools as a mark of honour to Sheikh Tamim.

The Municipal Board of Villa Elisa City in Paraguay approved a resolution to change the school’s name from ‘3839 Marangatu’ to the ‘State of Qatar,’ reported Gulf Times.

It was done to honour the state visit made by HH The Amir in early October.

When Sheikh Tamim visited the country, children from the school had joined hands to welcome him and organised various events during the ceremony.

Ricardo Adolfo Estigarribia, head of the city’s municipality, briefed Abdurahman Ahmed Alsuwaidi, Acting Charge d’Affaires of the Qatar Embassy in Paraguay, on the decision by the municipal board, reported The Peninsula.

The news was passed on to the Qatari official during their meeting in Asuncion.

During his visit, HH The Amir held official talks with Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez and also witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and MoUs between their governments.

HH The Amir had also been decorated with the Mariscal Lopez necklace.
