Qatar’s focus on providing the highest quality of healthcare to the population is evident from the growing number of health facilities in the country.
In a bid to further enhance healthcare in the country, particularly for elderly patients, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has established the Daam Specialized Care Center at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City.
His Excellency Qatar’s Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani officially opened the center yesterday.

Some other ministers, including HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie, and HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, as well as several dignitaries, were also present on the occasion.
The highly-specialized center will boost care delivery to elderly patients by providing them round-the-clock follow-up and treatment.
A dedicated team of doctors and nursing staff will be available at the center to provide the health services according to a special treatment plan based on each patient’s individual needs.

The center contains different facilities for specialized services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other medical and nursing services in a home-like environment for elderly patients.
"This new facility will have a lasting legacy for our population and improve our health systems’ ability to provide long-term care services in the country for the elderly,” said HE Dr al-Kuwari.
“Residents of the Daam Specialized Care Centre will benefit from programs and services that are tailored to the level of care they require. Like our Enaya Specialized Care Centers, this facility has been designed to create a comfortable, home-like environment in the community; a space that provides the best quality patient-centered medical care while supporting patients in regaining or maintaining optimal levels of functioning," HE the Minister of Public Health added.

According to the Chief of Continuing Care at HMC Mahmoud Al Raisi, the first and second floors of the center will provide care for elderly patients requiring long-term mechanical ventilation.
The third and fourth floors will care for older adults living with dementia, or other forms of cognitive impairment, as well as those who require functional rehabilitative care, he said.
“Unlike a traditional hospital environment, the Daam Specialized Care Centre has been tailored to meet the needs of longer-term care patients. All rooms are private, have enough space to accommodate family and include an en suite bathroom. They also feature a wide range of artworks from a number of renowned Qatari artists,” Al Raisi added.
Earlier in 2017, the Minister of Public Health and HE Sheikh Abdulla Bin Saoud Al Thani, Qatar Central Bank Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Daam had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up the center. One hundred percent of the costs for the facility have been covered by the donation from Daam.
