Qatar and Italy have enjoyed friendly relations for a long time and with the recent visit of the Italian Prime Minister to Doha, the bond between the two nations has been cemented further.
Yesterday, the Italian Senate president, Maria Elisabetta Casellati, arrived in Doha and met with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, His Excellency the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, and HE Speaker of the Shura Council, Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, among other top officials of Qatar.

Casellati’s meeting with HH the Amir took place at the Amiri Diwan office, where she congratulated the Qatari ruler for the massive success of the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union hosted by Doha earlier this month.
During the meeting, HH the Amir and the Italian Senate president reviewed the friendly bilateral ties between Qatar and Italy, and engaged in discussions on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The existing GCC crisis and its implications for the security of the region were an important part of the discussions between HH the Amir and Casellati.
The Italian Senate president expressed her country's position on the importance of resolving the crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means.

She also called for the lifting of the blockade on Qatar and the violations of human rights that continue to take place because of the illegal siege.
Moreover, Casellati commended the steps taken by Qatar in the field of workers’ rights that have been considered as a role model for other countries.
HH the Amir thanked the Italian Senate president and appreciated Italy's support in resolving the Gulf crisis by means of dialogue.
During the meeting between the Qatari PM and Casellati, the two dignitaries discussed the Qatar-Italy bond and ways to further enhance and develop it, in addition to other regional and international issues of common concern.
