Aspetar, Qatar’s state-of-the-art orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, has been accorded with the Sixth Sheikh Fahad Hiroshima-Asia Sports Medicine and Science Award.
The prestigious award, which is endowed on medical institutions every year on the sidelines of the Asian Games, helps to determine the best medical project in Asia, reported Gulf Times.
The hospital won the award for making groundbreaking research during the last four years, led from the front by the Aspetar Sports Groin Pain Centre (SGPC), which helped in the fields of sports medicine and medical research.

The award ceremony, which was organised on the sidelines of this year’s Asian Games, was held yesterday during the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Jakarta, Indonesia, reported The Peninsula.
The function was attended by Qatar Olympic Committee President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and OCA President HE Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah.
Hussain Sultan Al Jaber received the award on behalf of Aspetar Director General and Aspire Zone Foundation CEO Mohamed Khalifa Al Suwaidi.
“We’re very proud to have received this prestigious award, which is the culmination of the hospital’s efforts over the past years. This isn’t the first time Aspetar has won this prestigious award. It has won it in 2014 and 2010 as well, thus showcasing its dominance in the field of sports medicine and science in the Asian continent,” Al Suwaidi was quoted as saying.
OCA chose SGPC for the award after a rigorous testing process that looked into the Centre’s past achievements, scientific research and contributions to the scientific field.
