Qatar has in recent times been a big proponent of green transportation methods.
It was only a few days ago that a Qatari company announced a joint venture with a Japanese entity to produce electric cars within a few years time.
And now, taking the green initiative forward, Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has begun a pilot project which tests the use of electric buses in the country, reported Gulf Times.
The initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Mowasalat and the China Harbour Engineering Company.

The MoTC is keen to introduce eco-friendly and sustainable transport modes in the country that can help in the reduction of carbon emissions from public transport.
MoTC will assess the pilot testing, which is being planned over a months-long period, to ensure electric buses can work well under Qatar’s weather conditions before deploying them, reported The Peninsula.
While Kahraama supported preparations for the electric buses pilot testing, it was Karwa who actually carried out the testing operations.

The MoTC has been working hard to provide an integrated, multi-modal and world-class transportation system that provides safe and reliable services in line with the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
