Qatar Airways began a new chapter by taking the Boeing 737 MAX 8 on its maiden journey, to Kuwait, on Tuesday.

The country’s national airline shared a picture of the flight on its Twitter handle, describing the flight as a ‘smooth operator.’

“#QatarAirways first Boeing 737 MAX 8 is all ready to go to #Kuwait,” it said in the tweet.

The QR1070 flight to Kuwait took off from Doha at 8.20 am and landed in Kuwait City at 9.50 am.

The airlines, in a statement, said the Boeing 737 MAX 8s would add capacity to help drive future growth, especially in short-haul markets. Gradually, the use of the aircraft will be expanded from the Doha-Kuwait-Doha route to other nations, principally in the Gulf region, as and when approvals are granted.

“As a rapidly growing airline, these efficient and modern aircraft are a welcome addition to the narrow body fleet to support our sustainable expansion plans as the world’s leading airline,” read the statement.

Qatar Airways has now received its second Boeing 737-8 and will take delivery of the remaining seven aircraft by the end of July.
