The Qatar Central Bank (QCB) confirmed that a temporary technical issue disrupted operations on the National ATM and Point of Sale (POS) network (NAPS) on Monday evening, affecting debit card transactions on devices not affiliated with the cardholder’s issuing bank.
In an official statement, QCB reported that the problem briefly impacted ATM withdrawals and POS purchases using debit cards across the country. However, the disruption was limited to cross-bank transactions, with cards functioning normally when used on devices linked to their respective issuing banks.
The QCB said credit card services and the Fawran instant payment system remained fully operational and unaffected during the outage, providing alternative payment options for consumers.
Specialised technical teams from QCB acted swiftly to diagnose and resolve the issue, with services fully restored within approximately two hours of the disruption.
QCB reiterated its commitment to maintaining the stability, efficiency, and resilience of Qatar’s financial infrastructure, stating, “These actions reflect our ongoing efforts to ensure seamless banking services that meet the needs of consumers and uphold the integrity of financial operations without interruption.”
