With funding and support from the Qatar Fund for Development, and in cooperation with the Mercy Malaysia Foundation, Qatar Charity (QC) has contributed to providing urgent assistance to those affected by the floods in light of the urgent relief intervention plan drawn up by the Malaysian government.
In coordination with local partners and government, QC provided food baskets and personal hygiene products to 2188 affected families.
The initiative which began on March 10 this year is currently ongoing and is expected to aid several affected areas in the upcoming weeks.

The floods witnessed in Malaysia primarily affect groups and residents of villages and rural areas, cutting short their supply of food and safe drinking water.
As a result, thousands of citizens had to flee their cities after losing their homes and their access to basic essential goods.
QC aimed to quickly address these issues by firstly implementing a distribution operation in the area of Benta, which helped 248 families.
The need to maintain social distancing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the use of a warehouse to distribute the aids to affected families through several teams.
The second distribution took place in the region of Kuala lipis, where 290 people in five different villages were able to benefit from this aid.

The official in charge of residential communities, Mr. Ahmed Taj Al-Din, thanked the State of Qatar and the supporting bodies for the urgent and important assistance at this difficult time that their region is going through.
He said that this reflects the size of the brotherhood between the Qatari and Malaysian people, especially since the people of the region were affected by the flood.
Moreover, he pointed out the consequences have been dire as many of them are farmers and have lost their work from the flood.
It is expected that during the next two weeks the aid will be distributed to 800 families in the state of Johor and 850 families in the state of Sabah.
