Qatar strengthened its lead in the overall medal standings at the 4th Gulf Games Doha 2026, taking its tally to 96 medals at the end of the fifth day of competitions.

On Sunday, Qatari athletes won six gold, six silver, and two bronze medals to take their overall tally to 36 gold, 32 silver, and 28 bronze medals.

Saudi Arabia remained second with 53 medals (21 gold, 16 silver, 16 bronze), followed by Bahrain with 45 medals (18 gold, 17 silver, 10 bronze). Oman stayed fourth with 23 medals (8 gold, 4 silver, 11 bronze), while the UAE ranked fifth with 39 medals (7 gold, 11 silver, 21 bronze). Kuwait stood sixth with 38 medals (6 gold, 14 silver, 18 bronze).

Shooting success continues

Qatar’s shooters continued their dominance with new gold medals.

Reem Al Sharshani, who already won two gold medals in individual and team skeet events on Friday, secured her third gold by partnering Rashid Saleh Al Athba to win the mixed skeet team event. Kuwait claimed silver, while Bahrain took bronze.

Qatar also won gold in mixed team 10M air rifle event through Abdullah Al Sunaidi and Al Maha Al Ali, who defeated Oman’s Salem Al Nabi and Al Anoud Al Khalili in the final. The UAE secured bronze.

With the latest results, Qatar’s overall shooting tally rose to 11 medals, including five gold, one silver and five bronze medals.

Athletics: Samba leads Qatar one-two

At Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium, Abderrahman Samba won gold in the men’s 400M hurdles in 48.85sec, while fellow Qatari Basem Hemieda completed a Qatar one-two by taking silver in 49.28sec. UAE’s Muath Abdalla finished third.

Sara Ali added another gold for Qatar in women’s 400M hurdles, clocking 1:01.94sec, ahead of the UAE’s Mahra Enqelya and Bahrain’s Oluwakemi Adekoya.

Qatar also claimed two silver medals in athletics through Samar Mansouri in the women’s triple jump and the mixed 4x400M relay team, which finished second behind Bahrain.

 Bowling: Four more medals for Qatar

Qatar’s bowling team won four medals on the penultimate day of competitions, securing one gold, two silver, and one bronze across events.

In overall standings, Qatar swept the top three positions ahead of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and Kuwait. Badr Khaled Al-Sada won gold with 5,009 points collected across the singles, doubles, triples, and team events. Jassim Al Marikhi took silver with 4,995 points, while Talal Al Marri claimed bronze with 4,896 points.

Qatar also won silver in the team event through Talal Al Marri, Abdulrahman Al Dosari, Badr Al Sada, Jassim Al Marikhi, Abdullah Al Dosari, and Ahmed Al Darwish, finishing with 5,719 points behind Saudi Arabia, which won gold with 5,735 points. The UAE secured bronze with 5,650 points.

Table Tennis Gold and Bronze

Qatar won gold and bronze in the mixed doubles table tennis competition. Mohammed Abdulwahab and Aya Mohammed secured gold after defeating the UAE pair of Ali Al Hawai and Noura Al Mazmi 3-0 in the final.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Abdulwahab and Mariam Ali claimed bronze with a 3-0 victory over Bahrain’s Rashid Khalid Sanad and Rayan Emad in the third-place playoff.

Silver in Snooker

Qatar’s Ali Al Obaidli won silver in the men’s 6-red snooker singles event after narrowly losing 3-4 to Kuwait’s Ammar Taqi in the final.

Strong starts in padel, volleyball and handball

Qatar’s men’s padel team defeated Saudi Arabia 3-0 in their opening match at Aspire Dome. The hosts are aiming to retain the gold medal they won in the previous edition in Kuwait and will face Kuwait on Sunday.

In volleyball, Qatar’s men’s team opened its campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over the UAE, winning 25-17, 25-13, and 25-13.

Qatar’s handball team also moved to the top of the standings after a dominant 34-19 victory over Kuwait. It marked Qatar’s second consecutive win following its opening victory against the UAE.
