The National Archives of Qatar, in cooperation with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), will launch the “Beyond the Court” exhibition at the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara on Thursday, August 27.
The exhibition will run until March 27, 2027, offering visitors an interactive and documentary journey through the history and global legacy of basketball.
Exploring basketball’s global story
“Beyond the Court” will trace the development of basketball and its journey to Qatar through a combination of historical, sporting and documentary content.
Visitors will be able to explore a collection of archival material and selected historical memorabilia highlighting important moments in the sport’s evolution.
Interactive activities will also allow visitors to engage with major milestones in basketball history and learn more about the sport’s global influence.
Qatar’s basketball history takes the spotlight
A key part of the exhibition will focus on the development of basketball in Qatar.
The exhibition will feature recorded interviews with prominent individuals who contributed to the growth of the sport locally and regionally.
The interviews form part of an oral history project documenting personal testimonies and memories connected to important stages in Qatar’s basketball journey.
Through these accounts, visitors will be able to explore how the sport developed in the country and the individuals who helped shape its progress.
Building towards FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027
The exhibition aims to raise awareness of basketball’s history while connecting its international legacy with the sport’s development in Qatar.
It also comes as the country continues preparations to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, bringing further attention to Qatar’s growing role in international basketball.
“Beyond the Court” will remain open at Katara until March 27, 2027.
