In the Arab Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (AASGP) elections held on Friday in Cairo, the State of Qatar, represented by HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala, won the presidency.
The Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) brings together Secretaries General and other senior office holders in charge of parliamentary services. It studies the law, procedure, practice and working methods of different parliaments and proposes measures for improvement and for securing cooperation between the different services of different parliaments.
It is a consultative body of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the ASGP President reports annually to the IPU Executive Committee on the Association's activities. The ASGP assists the IPU on subjects within the scope of the Association.

HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council expressed his great gratitude for the AASGP's confidence in him and his election as its chairman in his speech during the meeting.
HE Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala also expressed his desire to assume this responsibility for developing and advancing the AASGP's performance in order to achieve its goals, serve Arab parliaments, and realize the hopes of the region's peoples through cooperation, solidarity, and work in a spirit of brotherhood.
The Secretary-General of the Egyptian House of Representatives was chosen vice-chairman of AASGP during the meeting. Also elected were the members of the AASGP executive committee. The group went over a report on the functioning of the AASGP and addressed its future plans.
