Autumn officially begins in Qatar on September 23 with autumnal equinox

Qatar will officially enter astronomical autumn on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, marking the end of the summer season with the arrival of the autumnal equinox.

According to the Qatar Meteorology Department, the Sun will be positioned directly above the equator during the equinox, signalling the seasonal transition from summer to autumn.

Day and night become approximately equal

One of the defining features of the autumnal equinox is that daytime and nighttime are approximately equal in length.

The event occurs as the Sun crosses the celestial equator, creating nearly equal periods of daylight and darkness.

Qatar Meteorology also noted that the Sun rises close to the true east and sets close to the true west during the equinox.

Temperatures begin to moderate

The start of astronomical autumn also signals the beginning of a gradual change in Qatar’s weather conditions.

Temperatures are expected to become more moderate as the season progresses, moving away from the peak summer heat.

Qatar Meteorology added that local rain clouds may become more frequent at times during the period.

A seasonal turning point

The autumnal equinox is one of two equinoxes each year, occurring when the Sun is positioned directly above the equator.

For Qatar, the September 23 event marks another step in the transition towards the milder weather conditions typically experienced later in the year.
