Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development presented the sixth edition of its SHOWTIME! musical theatre production, titled "The Secret of the Garden", featuring 50 students from six schools and accompanied by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. The production formed part of its efforts to promote the performing arts among Pre-University Education students, develop their acting, singing and ensemble performance skills, and build their confidence.
The production, organised by the Student Affairs and Community Engagement team under Qatar Foundation's Pre-University Education, was staged at the Pre-University Education Theater before a large audience.
"The Secret of the Garden" was presented as a bilingual Arabic and English musical theatre production exploring themes of hope, healing and transformation. It gave students opportunities for artistic expression, developing their performance abilities and strengthening their connection to the Arabic language, culture and identity.
Qatar Foundation said in a statement today that SHOWTIME! has become an important platform for building the confidence of Pre-University Education students and creating memories that remain with them throughout their lives, as well as opening new opportunities in Arabic-language performing arts. It also provides an integrated educational experience beyond the classroom, allowing students to acquire acting, movement and singing skills while developing their abilities in collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and communication with audiences.
A number of students emphasised the production's importance in building confidence and developing artistic and language skills. It enabled them to overcome stage fright and express their abilities through singing and theatrical performance, while also providing an opportunity to practise Arabic through music, including for students who do not speak it as their first language.
Participants who have taken part in the experience over several years noted the development of their performances, their ability to communicate with audiences and their connection to the theatrical experience and the opportunities it has offered them for learning and creativity.
Through SHOWTIME!, Qatar Foundation seeks to provide artistic experiences that combine education with creative practice, strengthen the presence of Arabic in contemporary theatre and remain open to global artistic experiences.
