The 2021 GCC Aquatics Championships will be hosted in Qatar after the Gulf Cooperation Council swimming organising committee postponed tournaments scheduled for 2020 to 2021.

A recent virtual meeting, held by the GCC swimming organising committee, discussed the delay of the tournament and activities for the year 2021. The meeting was head by Chairman of Oman Swimming Association (OSA) and Chairman of the Arab Swimming Taha bin Sulaiman Al Kashari with the participation of members of the committee, including Secretary-General of the Swimming Federation Talal Mubarak Al Darwish.

Muhammad Al Sahili, in charge of the work of the technical expert at the OSA, was chosen to be the technical coordinator for the organising committee during the virtual meeting. Moreover, letters received by the committee from the General Secretariat and the member Gulf federations were reviewed.

According to the committee, the 16th swimming championship in the short course will be set to start four months from now. It was decided based on the 18th open water swimming championship that will be held in October 2021.

In the last tournament, Qatar won 34 medals at the 27th GCC Aquatics Championships, which was held in Kuwait. The team went home with 17 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 7 bronze medals.

The event to take place in 2021 is sure to please all swimming fanatics in Qatar and a spectacle to look forward to.
