A team of officials from Qatar’s International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force, Lekhwiya, has begun its tasks in fire-affected sites in Greece.

The group arrived in Greece earlier this week following directives from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The team has joined search and rescue operations in Greece as the country deals with devastating wildfires that have torn through its various parts.

Greece is experiencing the worst heatwave in over 30 years, with wildfires sweeping tens of thousands of acres of forestland, damaging homes and businesses and killing animals, according to Al Jazeera.

Qatar’s support for Greece comes shortly after the country sent a search and rescue team to Turkey. The team joined search and rescue operations for missing persons in Turkey as it fought catastrophic wildfires.
