The State of Qatar participated in the joint meeting of Their Excellencies the Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with HE Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, which was held today in Manama.
The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by HE Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, and HE Governor of Qatar Central Bank Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani.
The meeting discussed a number of financial and economic topics, foremost of which are the economic prospects of the GCC countries and policy priorities in light of the geopolitical developments and turmoil in the region, and the resulting challenges to the Gulf economies.
The meeting also discussed policies to maintain economic and financial stability, enhance the capacity of GCC countries to face the economic repercussions of geopolitical and trade turmoil, discuss ways to support economic diversification and promote growth led by the private sector, and continue structural reforms that contribute to providing job opportunities and enhancing the competitiveness of Gulf economies.
HE the Minister of Finance stressed the importance of continuing to enhance the resilience of the economies of the countries of the region and support the process of economic diversification, noting that "the current challenges motivate us to strengthen cooperation and seek more regional interdependence," stressing the need to continue progress in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital assets and economic diversification, despite the current challenges and constraints.
His Excellency also praised the efforts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in assessing the economic repercussions of current developments and anticipating their future prospects, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation and dialogue with the IMF to support economic and financial stability.
