Qatar Tourism (QT) wants to double employment opportunities in the tourism sector as the country continues to position itself as a global leader in service excellence., according to COO Berthold Trenkel.

They wish to focus on developing experiences across six demand spaces:- Active vacations; relaxation and rejuvenation; sun, sea, and sand; cultural lovers; luxury city breaks; and romantic getaways. "These demand spaces show a holistic and all-encompassing vision of what Qatar has to offer and which client categories we want to focus on," he stated at QT's Annual Tourism Industry Ramadan Ghabga, held recently.

Qatar, which was ranked the safest country in the world by Numbeo in 2020, welcomes all travelers and grants visa-free entrance to people from more than 95 countries. In order to accommodate visitors, Qatar Tourism plans to develop 50 hotels by the end of 2022. Opened on April 15 2022 was Place Vendome Mall, a Parisian-inspired development in Lusail City that combines retail, leisure, entertainment, and luxury all under one roof.

Trenkel predicted an even stronger second half, citing a seven-fold increase in visitor numbers in the first quarter of 2022. With an ambitious strategy for 2030, they aim to triple the number of tourists to Qatar in the next three years, increase spending in our destination by three to four times, and increase the travel and tourism sector's contribution to GDP from 7 to 12%.

I am confident that this year and beyond, working together, we will continue to go from strength to strength, and will see the launch of several projects that will attract visitors to Qatar well beyond the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.” Trenkel said.

QT is also preparing to hold the first-ever Eid Festival on the Doha Corniche from May 3 to 5, featuring balloon parades, carnival games, marching bands and much more. Qatar is a destination where people of the world come together to experience unique offerings in arts, culture, sports, and adventure, catering to family and business visitors, rooted in Service Excellence. Another highly anticipated event, the Doha Jewelry & Watches Exhibition (DJWE), will take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center from May 9 to 13. DJWE will feature more than 65 exhibitors from more than ten nations, as well as 500 well-known international brands.

As part of the company's digital transformation strategy, Qatar Tourism established the award-winning Visit Qatar website and mobile app, which acts as a guide to help guests design unique itineraries. According to Trenkel, QT hosted over 100 journalists in Qatar last year and established nine new travel trade representative offices throughout the world, helping to solidify Qatar's place on the global tourism map.

Our 2021 achievements are a testament to our tourism strategy, which puts the visitors at the heart of all our programmes and initiatives”,  he concluded thanking their business partners for their contributions to QT's continued success.
