During the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2021 (SPIEF), Qatar University (QU) signed a memorandum of understanding with several prominent universities in Russia to collaborate in the fields of scientific research, education, and culture.

Three universities had signed separate agreements with QU during the event.

The first agreement, with Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), aims to establish academic and research cooperation between the two institutions aimed at the development of internationalization in education, including the development of academic mobility, extension of cultural links, and mutually educational and research activity.

The MoU came as a culmination of many ongoing and future collaboration in social sciences, humanities, and gulf studies.

QU also signed an MoU with the Saint-Petersburg University (SPBU) aiming to develop scientific and academic cooperation in areas of mutual interest between colleges of business and economics at both institutions and aims to promote and conduct joint scientific and academic activities, publication of papers, journals, textbooks and tutorials, organization of seminars, conferences, and other joint projects, including student exchange.

In addition, QU signed a third agreement in the field of Law with the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) to cooperate in various formats (in-person, online and/or blended), for academic exchange among students and faculty, developing and implementing joint educational programs, collaborating in publication, conducting joint research and organizing and implementing joint education events.

The signing was attended by QU President Dr. Hassan Al-Derham and senior officials of the universities, MSU Rector Prof. Acad. Viktor Sadovnichy, SPBU Rector Prof. Nikolay Kropachev and HSE Rector Dr. Yaroslav Kuzminov.

QU is part of a delegation of 500 individuals from Qatar attending the four-day forum in Russia. The main theme of the forum is 'A Collective Reckoning of the New Global Economic Reality.'

Over the last 24 years, the forum has become a leading global platform for members of the business community to meet and discuss the key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world as a whole.
