Qatar will always remain supportive of Sudan, underlined His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani yesterday.

This came in a joint press conference HE the FM took part in alongside Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mariam Al Sadiq Al Mahdi, in Khartoum.

HE Sheikh Mohammed affirmed that his visit to Sudan came within the framework of brotherhood and fraternal relations that link Qatar with Sudan.

The visit provided a good opportunity to review the historic Qatar-Sudan relations and explore ways to boost cooperation between the two countries, HE the FM pointed out.

Sudan is going through exceptional circumstances in this transitional phase, which is a normal thing, he mentioned, assuring Qatar’s full confidence in Sudan to emerge stronger from this stage.

HE the FM further said that the talks covered the issue of Darfur Peace and the Juba Agreement and that Qatar supports all such efforts. He reiterated that his country will continue to work with the Sudanese government to achieve all peace requirements in Sudan.

The discussions also encompassed other issues in the region, including the recent tension with Ethiopia as well as the regional situation in Libya and Chad.

He said that Qatar does not want anything that affects the Sudanese people, or their security and lives. He commended Sudan’s wise and diplomatic way of tackling these issues and said he hoped there will be a solution to these crises via dialogue and communication.

The talks also looked into the Palestinian issue, and the recent unfortunate events that saw the Israeli aggression toward the Palestinian people, HE Sheikh Mohammed said, highlighting that Qatar stands by the Palestinian people.

He said that the Arab world is going through a difficult stage and these challenges constitute an opportunity to gather around the nation's issues.
