The men's Qatar 1 team won the silver medal, while the women's Qatar 1 team made history by securing the bronze medal for the first time. The achievements came at the conclusion of the third round of the 2026 West Asia Men's and Women's Beach Volleyball Tour, hosted at Al Gharafa Beach Volleyball Centre.
The men's Qatar 1 team, comprising Mousa Alkhair and Mohamed Ihab, finished second after losing the final to Bahrain 1 in straight sets, 22–24 and 19–21. Qatar 1 had reached the final by defeating Lebanon 1 in straight sets, 21–13 and 24–22, in the semifinal.
In the women's competition, Qatar 1, comprising Haya Abu Issa and Laila Mohammed, won the bronze medal after defeating Bahrain by two sets to one, 13–21, 21–19 and 15–12, in the third-place match. The Qatari team had lost to Lebanon 1 in straight sets in the semifinal, while Lebanon 1 claimed the title after defeating compatriots Lebanon 2 by two sets to one in the final.
The round featured 15 teams from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Lebanon, with strong competition in the men's and women's categories. The Qatari women's teams had a notable presence through four entries: Haya Abu Issa and Laila Mohammed represented Qatar 1, Shaghaf Ismail and Malak Hashem represented Qatar 2, Aisha Al Alawi and Nelly Amr represented Qatar 3, while Lamis Al Salman and Dana Saber represented Qatar 4, reflecting the expanding base of women's participation and the growing regional presence of Qatari beach volleyball.
Ali bin Ghanem Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Volleyball Association and West Asian Volleyball Federation, said Qatar's hosting of the third round of the West Asia Tour reflected its commitment to supporting and developing the sport and ensuring the continuity of its competitions across the region. In remarks to Qatar News Agency, he noted that the tournament featured strong competition, good technical standards and participation by several teams from West Asian countries.
Al Kuwari expressed satisfaction with the results achieved by the Qatari teams, particularly the men's Qatar 1 team winning the silver medal, describing it as a positive indication of the team's improving level. He also praised the women's Qatar 1 team's bronze medal, stressing that the result represented an important step and an encouraging beginning towards achieving better results in future competitions.
He added that the West Asian Volleyball Federation is committed to continuing to organise tournaments and expand participation. The federation's calendar is approved through 2028 and includes competitions in several countries across the region, helping to develop the standard of players and national teams and strengthen the presence of beach volleyball.
