A central part of Qatar's response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been its focus on ensuring the availability of medical facilities, equipment, and supplies to manage the crisis efficiently.

The last few months have seen local expertise and talents rising to the challenge to develop equipment that has supported the country's fight against COVID-19.

Local factories also upped their production capacities of medicines, sanitizers, and masks in order to meet the demands of the local and global markets, in light of the pandemic.

Barzan Holdings, a local firm affiliated with Qatar's Ministry of Defense began producing artificial ventilators aimed at meeting the demands of the local and international markets.

The respiratory machines (Savr-Q) are 100 percent locally made, in terms of engineering and manufacturing.

Qatar's Government Communications Office (GCO) highlighted yesterday that the Savr-Q ventilators are being produced in record time.

Barzan Holdings is "currently producing up to 8,000 ventilators per month to meet the needs of the local and global market," GCO stated in a tweet which also features a video look at the production.

According to the video, “Barzan Holdings is building a lasting legacy in Qatar."

Earlier in April, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited the Research and Development Center at Barzan Holdings to inspect the production lines for the manufacturing of the Savr-Q ventilators.

During his visit, HH the Amir had also met the Qatari engineers who were working on creating devices that are in line with the standards of the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The production of these ventilators follows from HH the Amir's directives and is part of the country's efforts to respond to the COVID-19 challenge.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
