With a sharp rise in temperatures, the first air-conditioned pedestrian bridge in the Industrial Area has come as a blessing for a large number of residents of the area dominated by expatriate single workers.

The bridge near Street No. 1 in the Industrial Area also has surveillance cameras.

In a bid to improve pedestrians' safety, 267 new crossings, pathways and overpasses will be built in the coming years, the Ministry of Interior said in 2014.

The plan includes 18 one-way, 113 all-direction crossings and several pedestrian bridges, some of which will be air-conditioned, the ministry had said. [The Peninsula]
