Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar has worked above and beyond to protect the health of its citizens and residents.

The country was quick to implement a series of preventive and precautionary measures aimed at curbing the spread of the infection.

In addition to transforming its existing healthcare facilities for testing, observation and management of COVID-19 cases, the country’s health authorities rose to the challenge to set up new facilities to deal with the situation.

With an emphasis on contact tracing, testing and the use of sophisticated technology Qatar was able to ensure early detection of COVID-19 cases as well as compliance with precautionary measures.

Despite having a relatively high number of cases, the country has witnessed one of the lowest mortality rates in the world.

Now, as it has reached the final phase of its four-phased gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, a top official from the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has underlined the health sector’s exceptional role in addressing the pandemic.

Managing Director of PHCC, Dr Mariam Ali Abdulmalik said yesterday that the health sector, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, has worked hard and with dedication around the clock to protect the society.

PHCC has spared no effort in this regard Dr Abdulmalik noted, adding that the constant guidance and directives from Her Excellency the Minister of Public Health helped ensure the provision of proper health services in line with the highest international standards.

Qatar and its wise leadership paid exceptional attention to the health sector, to allow the people of Qatar to enjoy high-quality health services at any time.

This followed from the belief in the importance of building a healthy society in promoting the comprehensive development process at all levels, she mentioned.

The PHCC has committed to achieving the strategic recommendations, focusing on the health of the patient, based on this belief.

She underlined that the “Health for All” is not just a slogan, but rather a clear approach centered on a well-studied plan of action.

It aims for the continuous development of services and the geographical and service expansion, through adopting an integrated care model.

She further mentioned that Qatar’s health sector competes with global health providers in terms of quality, speed, and availability of human and material capabilities.

Under the National Health Strategy 2018-2022, the health sector remains focused on creating a healthy society free of diseases and realizes that prevention is better than cure.

This is reflected in the sector’s emphasis on the importance of health education, as well as medical services provided by the State to the citizen, resident and visitors alike.

In the last couple of months, “we have had to learn and develop faster than ever before, and I am confident that we will continue to face challenges with the same determination and commitment to the quality that we have achieved so far. We are proud of the progress we have made, and we will continue our work closely with our community partners in our battle against (Covid-19),” Dr Abdulmalik said.
