Global oncology platform OncoDaily has recognised HE Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al-Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Figures in Oncology for 2025, in acknowledgement of his leadership and long-standing contributions to advancing cancer care and public health.

The recognition highlights Sheikh Dr Khalid’s role in strengthening healthcare systems, supporting evidence-based health policies, and championing cancer awareness, patient advocacy, medical education, and scientific research. It also reflects Qatar’s growing international standing in cancer control and the increasing global impact of its healthcare leadership.

This achievement further underscores the pivotal role of the Qatar Cancer Society as a national institution, driving patient support initiatives, community awareness programmes, and impactful local and international partnerships aligned with global best practices.

Commenting on the honour, Sheikh Dr Khalid emphasised that the recognition represents a collective national success rather than an individual achievement. He noted that it reflects the global medical community’s confidence in Qatar’s integrated healthcare model, which prioritises prevention, early detection, advanced treatment, and patient-centred care.

He added that the recognition brings greater responsibility to expand programmes, strengthen partnerships, and ensure sustainable, comprehensive support for cancer patients, survivors, and their families.

In 2025, QCS supported the treatment of more than 1,750 adult and paediatric patients at the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research and Sidra Medicine, with total support exceeding QR49 million. Psychosocial support programmes directly benefited 1,200 individuals, while digital platforms extended indirect support to over 40,000 people. Additionally, 50 cancer survivors received specialised one-on-one psychological care.

Community awareness remained a core focus, with campaigns reaching over 6.6 million indirect beneficiaries online, alongside nearly 19,000 participants in workshops, educational initiatives, and field activities across Qatar. Professional development and research support efforts reached 16,248 beneficiaries, reinforcing QCS’s role in advancing expertise and sustainable healthcare development.

In terms of institutional achievements, QCS marked several milestones in 2025, including membership in Qatar’s National Cancer Control Framework, the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control, and the Union for International Cancer Control. The organisation also received the Qatar Social Responsibility Award 2025, secured the rights to host the global Relay for Life event, established 17 strategic partnerships, and delivered more than 80 awareness initiatives in collaboration with educational institutions nationwide.

Established in 1997, the Qatar Cancer Society continues to serve as a cornerstone of Qatar’s national cancer control ecosystem, working to build a cancer-aware community and improve quality of life through comprehensive awareness, financial assistance, and psychosocial support programmes.
