During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are busy with religious and social activities. At the same time, kitchens in households are equally busy, if not busier, preparing meals for Iftar and Suhoor.
Here are some important tips that will ensure your safety in the kitchen.
• Don't leave cooking pans and pots unattended on heat/fire. Remove it if you have to leave the kitchen and make sure the cooker or oven is turned off once cooking is finished
• Never throw water on a burning pan, but just cover with a damp tea-towel and turn off the heat and call 999 if required.
• Keep electric leads, tea towels and cloths away from the cooker. Keep the oven, cooker and grill clean as build-up of grease can easily catch fire.
• Take extra care when cooking with oil, as it may set on fire easily. If the oil starts to smoke - it's too hot! Turn it off and leave it to cool.
• Do not use lighters or matches to light gas cookers. Spark devices are safer.
• Don't allow children to play near ovens and hot plates.
Be very careful with clothing, make sure head scarves etc do not come into contact with a naked flame.
Remember that 999 is at your service in any emergency condition 24 hours a day. Don't hesitate to call if you are in an emergency situation.
