1. The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters

This week for my top pick I will not recommend a restaurant as usual. This time I am recommending an event, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, which will be held at Doha Golf Club from 22nd - 25th February.

Even if you don’t like or understand golf, the Qatar Masters is a great social event. Golf fans can watch the world’s best golfers in action while everyone else can enjoy a weekend outdoors. The Doha Golf Club is by far one of the most beautiful settings in the country. I am not a golf fan, but every year I attend the event just to enjoy everything else that’s on offer and the beautiful surroundings. The Public Village is a fantastic place to have lunch or dinner, socialize with family and friends and take in the fantastic views of the course. There’s also a great shopping boulevard. All in all, it’s an amazing activity to do this weekend.

Admission is free for the event. Fans can register online at www.qatar-masters.com to get their free tickets. For those looking for an extra-special experience, a range of popular corporate hospitality packages are available to purchase. For more information visit: www.qatar-masters.com/hospitality/

2. Red Bull Car Park Drift - Qatar Qualifier

Buckle up because Red Bull Car Park Drift is back in Qatar. This is no underground drift club. If anything, this is as high-profile as drifting can get. Roaring engines and screeching tires are bound for Qatar on February 23rd, 2018.

None other than the legendary Abdo Feghali will be back on-ground to turn-up the heat and burn plenty of rubber. It’s going to be a really exciting and special year because Red Bull will be celebrating 10 years of Car Park Drift—we know it's going to be great.

Top up your tanks for an exciting weekend at the Losail Circuit Sports Club from 7:00 pm till 9:30 pm on Friday, Februrary 23rd, 2018.

And more importantly, Qatar Living will be running a competition and giving away prizes, so if you're planning to attend, keep an eye out for us at Losail.

3. Banana Restaurant (Musheireb)

I love South Indian food tremendously, but my eagerness to enjoy a meal has often led me to trying some really dodgy restaurants. (I’ll never forget the beef dry fry incident of 2015). You may have passed Banana Restaurant in Musheireb on your travels and wondered about it. Well I can tell you it’s an absolute delight! The spacious and clean restaurant offers privacy for families and couples, but most importantly, offers a variety of delicious menu items! The chicken curries are spiced perfectly, allowing the flavours to come to life. Their juice and smoothie selection is well worth experimenting with too. Plus everything is extremely budget friendly! My kinda place.

4. Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace (2016)

Despite the allegations of catering towards an “Alt-Right” audience, Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace remains one of the funniest anti-comedy shows ever aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block. Ostensibly billed as a "sketch show in an almost present day post-apocalyptic nightmare”, World Peace is a hefty dose of audio-visual nihilism that perfectly captures the feeling of a rudderless post-post-post-modern world endlessly spiraling into a bottomless whirlpool of flaming garbage.

Here’s a rejected teaser for the show:

Honestly, comedy is super subjective, so while the above video accurately represents the aesthetic of the show, you’re gonna have to google “Million Dollar Extreme World Peace - Morning Routine” and watch that skit to see if the show is for you. If you don’t find that sketch funny then: 1) Don’t waste your time with the show 2) Stop reading this hastily put-together “review”, and 3) Scroll down to read the rest of this week’s QL Top 7 Picks™ brought to you by your friends at Qatar Living for Trade and IT Investment W.L.L.

5. Al Bidda Park

My pick for this week is an iconic park in Qatar. Al Bidda Park just opened a few days ago on National Sports Day 2018 and it looks incredible.

Everyone who grew up in this country has some kind of fond memory of Al Bidda. Before Aspire or the MIA park, Al Bidda was the place to go. Family picnics, events or just hanging out and skating with friends; Al Bidda was the place to do all that.

And now the renovated park looks even better and more promising. It is pet-friendly with amazing scenery and the location on the Corniche makes Al Bidda once again the perfect weekend hangout. Make sure you check it over the weekend.

6. The Legend of Zelda: A Link between Worlds

This is an action adventure game for the Nintendo 3ds and one of my absolute favourite games out there. You play as Link, embarking on an adventure to save the 7 sages and defeat the primary antagonist, Yuga. You get to go through two different maps solving puzzles and clearing dungeons with rented or purchased tools to save the 7 sages, including the beloved princess Zelda.

7. Avé (2011)

Avé is a 2011 Bulgarian drama film directed by Konstantin Bojanov. The film is Bojanov's narrative film debut, and winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

The story follows a young man and woman as they hitchhike their way through Bulgaria to get to a funeral and to find a missing, drug-addicted sibling. Avé, the film's heroine and namesake, proves to be something of a catalyst for a lot of the adventure.

If you're in a slow mood, this slow road film is just the thing for you. If you don't mind reading subtitles, or watching films about two young people that don't talk all that much, and end up in strange situations, then this is the film for you.

And not to worry, Avé is not as gloomy as it sounds, quite hopeful actually, I promise!
