1. Hudson Tavern at Mondrian Hotel

Last week I visited for the first time the newest addition to Doha's culinary scene, "Hudson Tavern". The restaurant is located inside the majestic and luxurious Mondrian Hotel in West Bay. Surrounded by brick walls, wooden surfaces, and vintage lighting, the place is all anyone can look for to chill out and relax. Hudson Tavern is casual and comfortable in terms of the ambiance and decor. All the staff are young, cheerful and super attentive. Although it is located inside a fancy hotel, Hudson Tavern has friendly prices.

When it comes to the food the burgers are what you must try. Be sure to be hungry because the burgers are big in size, but incredibly delicious and juicy. I highly recommend visiting Hudson Tavern.

Hudson Tavern
Location: Mondrian Doha, near Lagoona Mall in West Bay.
Open: From 12:30 p.m. till 12:00 a.m.

2. Call of Duty: WWII (may make your social life non-existent)

I am usually the one recommending events in this lot, but this week I am going to endorse a video game that I've been playing quite a bit latelyCall of Duty: WWII. I am a sucker for games based on real events and this one tops my list from the CoD franchise.

I haven't finished the campaign mode yet, but I'm loving it so far. I won't spoil it for you, but there's a lot of variety from one mission to the next, and all the expected Call of Duty elements are there from fist fights, to jeep chases and tense shootouts. The game also has a multiplayer and zombies mode (duh!), but the gameplay is still a bit buggy at timesplease fix this, Activision!

The two things that stand out for me though are the shooting mechanics and the score of the game.  The shooting feels crisp and gratifying, as always, and the theme song is consistently stuck in my head. It's the best Call of Duty soundtrack in years.

Finally, I'm especially pleased with this game since I don't have to play with futuristic space weapons or jetpacks anymore. It's back to the basics and works really well in World War II. Definitely give this game a go. (Add me on PSN if you would like to challenge me: mohdnoor000)

3. WWE Survivor Series (on the WWE Network or OSN Sports 1)

Teams of five strive to survive! It's Survivor Series time again. As one of the original "big four" pay per views, WWE's November Elimination tradition is back with it's 31st edition. The storylines have played out pretty well over the last few weeks, and the build up has been pretty exciting. I'm a big wrestling fan of course, so seeing the return of legends like Kurt Angle and Triple H is always cool. Other than the traditional team matches, there is also the huge singles match between AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar. If you're wanting to watch the event live, you can catch it on OSN Sports 1 or the WWE Network at 3am Monday morning, or catch it on demand at any time if you're a WWE Network subscriber.

4. Dementia (1955)

A nameless woman awakens from a nightmare. She grabs her switchblade and ventures out into the city streets where she is pursued by a grinning policeman with the face of her father.

What if Ed Wood and Luis Buñuel teamed up to direct a movie based on one of your recurring nightmares? You’d probably get something similar to director John Parker’s first (and only) film - Dementia (1955). Part B movie, part film noir, part expressionist cinema, and hurtling 100 miles per hour on dream logic, Dementia is one of the strangest American films from the 1950s.

Lensed by the cinematographer of Plan 9 From Outer Space, this movie has zero dialogue and uses pure visual storytelling to take us on a trance-like journey through the dark underbelly of urban America. A truly unique piece of outsider art, this film is a must watch for fans of both the avant grade and Z-grade schlock.

Dementia is available on DVD from Kino Video:

Watch it if you liked Glen or Glenda (1953) and Eraserhead (1977).

5. The Show

This Friday I went with a couple of friends to Khor Al Udaid for a beautiful adventure. We left Doha at around 1:30 pm and reached Sealine at 2:30 to watch that desert show.

They called it “Al Istirad” which literally means “The Show”, and It happens almost every Friday. As soon as you reach Sealine, you see a large number of four-wheel cars all deflating their tires ready to go in deep in the desert for a Qatar’s version of the X-games.

We have driven for about an hour off-road on the sand until we reached the location of the show. I couldn’t really count, but I would estimate there was over a thousand cars parked as spectators watching other drivers doing crazy stunts over the sand dune. If felt like a carpark theatre in the middle of the desert.

The stunts that were being performed were unreal. Cars flying off the cliff while other cars drifting at almost a 90-degree angle. You have to go there and see it yourself.

6. Fujifilm Instax mini 8

This week’s pick is the Fujifilm Instax mini 8. Who doesn’t like vintage-y hipster stuff? For a cheaper-end instant camera it is one of the best as of 2017. My opinion on it is in this highly technological age of digital photography it’s good to come back to basics. It has a really good feel when it comes to memories since the photos come out with a natural warmth to them, there isn’t editing, no synthetically added effects, it’s authentic and you are able to capture reality in the moment.

7. Suburra: Blood on Rome

Yet another series on Netflix. If you liked "Narcos", chances are you'll enjoy "Suburra: Blood on Rome", an Italian crime drama about a tussle over development land in a town near Rome. Everyone's corrupt and thirsty for power, whether it's the Vatican, polticians, mafia or gypsy gangs. The three main characters that come together in the plot are from opposing factionsa local mafioso, a pill-pushing cop's son and a gypsy gang memberbut they all want to shake off the shackles of expectation put upon them by their families, and make their own names in the crimeworld.

The plot is inspired by a real-life political scandal, and although explicit (especially a rather jarring scene in the first episode), the storyline and characters are the main focus of this show. It's beautifully shot, with a great soundtrack and excellent acting and directing. What more could you want?
