Every week, the Qatar Living content team will share their personal recommendations for everything from apps to films and brunches this week in Qatar. As a multinational group, there's a diversity of choices and preference that we hope will cater to everybody.

1. South American Wednesdays at Coral Restaurant

Last Wednesday I visited Coral Restaurant at InterContinental Doha. It was the launch of their new South American themed night every Wednesday. As a South American myself, I have to admit the food was good, flavoursome and tasty. Among the dishes you can find at Coral I would recommend the Ceviche, the Mexican tacos, and the Burritos. The Guacamole and beef cuts are also delicious, as well as their chicken Lasagna.

2. Wain (Navigation App)

Are you tired of Google Maps taking you for a ride when you are desperate to get somewhere? Google Maps in Qatar can at times be notorious for taking you through routes that don't exist anymore, or failing to reroute when you've hit a dead end. But then someone told me about Wain.

I have been using Wain for a few days now and I'm loving it. The app is specifically designed for Qatar and routes are regularly updated. Through Wain, you can also get to specific buildings using the blue address plate information. You do not have to worry about the building location not being marked on the map.

The app can also pick out permanent speed cameras, but I wouldn't blindly rely on it. I still keep my eyes peeled for new radars. The app is loaded with many more features that may make your driving in Qatar better, so make sure you check it out.

If you drive in Qatar, I definitely recommend Wain over Google Maps. Wain is available for Android and iOS.

3. Far Cry 5 (PS4)

I just completed Far Cry 5 (with a platinum trophy) and can honestly say it’s some of the most fun you will have with a video game this year. I’m fairly new to the Far Cry experience, with my only previous outing being Far Cry Primal, but this installment is a guns blazing adventure from beginning to end. The somewhat controversial storyline does stray into silliness at times, but overall it’s a rollicking good time if you want a good story, great controls and a wonderful soundtrack. The multiplayer is also a lot of fun, so give it a try once you’re done with campaign mode.

4. BLACK CAT (PRE-OWNED)

I bought this cat three years ago when I was on vacation in the Philippines. I named him "Hideaki" but I mostly call him “Yaki”. Even though he looked a little bit like a meth junkie, he was a highly energetic kitten - always running around the house and playing with his cat toys. But now that he’s grown up he just lazes around doing absolutely nothing. He often gets mistaken for an obese squirrel or a giant rat depending on the lighting. And every time I see him he gives me this stupid look (see above) that just fills me with limitless rage. I think it’s time for this guy to find a new home.

5. Jeep Wrangler

This time I thought I’d try something different so I’m recommending a car. I’ve always loved Jeeps and the Jeep Wrangler is one of my favourite models. Whether you go for the four-door or two-door option, you can always rely on a Wrangler to deliver an enjoyable ride both on smooth roads and rough terrain.

Another reason I’m recommending this car is that of the Qatar Jeep Owners Group, which is a group of enthusiastic Jeep owners who formed a sub-culture from their love of these cars. They are very active on social media and they organize regular meetings for Jeep owners in Qatar. They also often drive to Sealine and other off-road destinations in large groups, so it adds to the fun of owning a Jeep.

6. Full Metal Jacket (1987)

My pick for this week is Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. It follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their training, and assignment into the Vietnam War. What struck me in this movie was the situation of the characters living in their training scene, how the training itself focuses a lot on conditioning the characters to kill and how this afflicts their way of thinking, acting, and coping once within the war zone. I appreciate this movie because it's a lot more than a war movie, it's a look at human psychology when under situations not considered normal.

7. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)

If you like Jane Austen and anything with a supernatural twist then you may enjoy this rather romantic but gory version of the iconic Pride and Prejudice. Think the usual charcters, but they're all trained in the martial arts to resist a potential invasion of the undead. Darcy may not be to everyone's taste, but Sam Riley does a good job of an even gloomier version of the original character, in my opinion, and Lily James makes an excellent Elizabeth.
